Toufique Hasan

Doctoral Researcher

I am a Doctoral Researcher at GPT-Lab, Tampere University, specializing in Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), Agentic RAG, and AI Agents to advance the capabilities of Large Language Models (LLMs).

I hold a Master’s degree in Data Science from Tampere University, Finland, and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Engineering from Bangladesh. My background blends strong academic foundations with hands-on industry experience as both a Software Engineer and Lecturer. In industry, I contributed to the development of educational platforms and the enhancement of ERP systems, delivering practical and effective software solutions. In academia, I served as a Lecturer and Coordinator, where I led academic programs, taught both theoretical and applied courses, and supervised final-year student projects.

At GPT-Lab, my current research focuses on developing advanced Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) systems, with a particular emphasis on Agentic RAG and the integration of AI Agent architectures. I design efficient semantic search pipelines and contextual knowledge retrieval mechanisms that empower LLMs to produce more relevant, grounded, and context-aware responses. This includes enhancing open-source models such as LLaMA and integrating dynamic retrieval strategies to minimize hallucinations and reduce token usage. Additionally, I am exploring the orchestration of autonomous AI Agents capable of reasoning, retrieving, and acting across complex environments—pushing the boundaries of Generative AI to deliver impactful real-world solutions.
