GPT-Lab's research spans the full spectrum of artificial intelligence — from core technical topics such as coding and AI systems to their broader societal implications. The research is organised into eight research pillars, covering areas from the most technical foundations of AI to questions of sustainability, governance, leadership, ethics, and societal transformation.

Rather than approaching AI solely as a technological innovation, GPT-Lab studies it also as a holistic socio-technical phenomenon. This perspective recognises that AI is shaped not only by algorithms and software, but also by human behaviour, organisations, institutions, and governance — supporting the responsible development, adoption, and governance of AI across society.
