GAISE26, the Generative AI in Software Engineering Summer School, welcomed 179 participants, 49 expert speakers, and leading organisations to Tampere University for three days of discussions on the future of AI-driven software engineering.
From 1–3 June 2026, GPT-Lab at Tampere University hosted the second Generative AI in Software Engineering (GAISE26) Summer School, bringing together researchers, software professionals, business leaders, and students from across Europe. With 179 participants, 49 speakers from academia and industry, and a programme spanning three dedicated tracks over three days, GAISE26 became one of the largest European events focusing on generative AI in software engineering.
The summer school was designed to connect research with industrial practice while providing valuable learning opportunities for participants at different stages of their careers. The programme featured three parallel tracks tailored to distinct audiences: an Academic Track exploring the latest research, an Industry Track presenting practical applications and lessons from companies, and an Executive Track addressing strategic leadership, AI adoption, and organisational transformation.
Across the three days, participants heard from internationally recognised researchers, technology experts, and industry practitioners who shared the latest developments in AI-assisted software development, agentic AI, coding assistants, software quality, AI governance, and responsible adoption of generative AI. The programme combined keynote presentations, technical talks, panel discussions, workshops, and networking opportunities that encouraged dialogue between academia and industry.
One of the defining strengths of GAISE26 was its multidisciplinary community. Researchers exchanged ideas with software developers, technology companies discussed emerging challenges with public-sector organisations, and executives explored how generative AI is reshaping software engineering, innovation, and business strategy. This diversity created an environment where new collaborations, research partnerships, and practical initiatives could emerge.
The event also reflected GPT-Lab’s mission to advance world-class research while supporting the responsible adoption of generative AI across society. By bringing together experts from multiple disciplines and sectors, GAISE26 strengthened the growing international community working at the intersection of artificial intelligence and software engineering.
GPT-Lab warmly thanks all 179 participants, 49 speakers, partners, sponsors, and volunteers whose contributions made GAISE26 a success. The enthusiasm, expertise, and collaborative spirit demonstrated throughout the three days reaffirm the importance of creating spaces where research, industry, and leadership come together to shape the future of software engineering with generative AI.
As generative AI continues to transform software development, GPT-Lab looks forward to building on the momentum of GAISE26 and welcoming the community to future editions of the summer school.
