Tampere University’s EVIL-AI Project Secures €1.4 Million Funding.

The Jane and Aatos Erkko Foundation has awarded a €1.4 million grant to Tampere University’s EVIL-AI project, led by Professors Henri Pirkkalainen, Pekka Abrahamsson, and Johanna Virkki. This multidisciplinary initiative aims to address the risks associated with AI, focusing on identifying and mitigating unethical and criminal uses. The project will explore threats such as AI deception and autonomous harmful activities. The funding will support the establishment of a leading research unit dedicated to the dark side of AI.

The EVIL-AI project, led by Professor Pirkkalainen, will dive deeper into AI agents’ unethical behaviors. The co-leaders of EVIL-AI aims to prevent AI misuse, explore regulation, and establish a top research unit. Over four years, the project will investigate AI agents performing tasks without human intervention.
