Design Competition for GPT-Lab Workspace
Tietotalo
We are seeking architecture students to design new workspaces for GPT-Lab researchers at Tietotalo in Hervanta. The space will function both as a workplace and as a representative space for stakeholders. Creativity is encouraged in the design, and the proposal may be bold. The space will be implemented based on the winning entry. The competition is organized by GPT-Lab.

Competition Brief
- Workspace for 7 GPT-Lab researchers. The same space will also serve as a representative space.
- Area: approx. 45 m²
- Location: Tietotalo, Hervanta
- The design will be based on the results of a survey conducted among GPT-Lab staff, which will be provided to the competitors.
Eligibility
- Architecture students at Tampere University (individuals or teams).
Required Contents of the Proposal
The competition entry must be feasible for implementation and include:
- Spatial plan
- Floor plan and space usage
- Furnished floor plan at scale 1:50
- Concept description
- How the space supports research work and collaboration
- Key solutions, including:
- Visual identity (rendered image(s) of the proposal)
- Materials and furniture solutions
- An indicative plan for required technical solutions/changes
- A written description of the proposal and justification of the design choices
Materials and Site Visit
- Accepted participants will receive the floor plan of the space and the results of the staff survey, in order of registration.
- Two opportunities to visit the site will be arranged:
- 19 January 2026, 13:00–15:00
- 22 February 2026, 10:00–12:00

Schedule
- Competition period: 13 January – 6 February 2026
- Submission deadline: 6 February 2026 at 24:00
- Proposals must be submitted as a PDF file.
- Detailed submission instructions will be provided separately to the competitors.
Evaluation and Prizes
- The awarded proposals will be selected by the GPT-Lab management team.
- The three best proposals will each receive a €500 prize.
- The winner will be asked to produce a more detailed implementation plan, which will be commissioned as a separate assignment.
