Can AI Make Software Safer? Help Us Find Out!

About the study

We are conducting empirical research exploring whether AI tools (Retrieval-Augmented Generation – RAG) can help people perform hazard & risk analysis for software projects. You’ll use a simple browser-based tool on a fictional case and give feedback on how helpful it feels.

Why we’re doing this

Generative AI has the potential to make challenging safety engineering tasks faster and easier. We’re testing if these tools can truly help and your participation will guide future improvements.

Time commitment for you

  • Session takes about 1 hour
  • Available until December — choose a time that fits your schedule

Where it happens

  • The entire study is done online
  • Meet via Teams and complete the task fully in your web browser
  • Access note: the study tool is currently available only to participants with HAKA logins from these universities: tuni.fi, jyu.fi, lapinamk.fi, utu.fi, seamk.fi.

How to take part

  • Book a session using the link below (you can invite 1–2 friends or colleagues to join your booked slot)
  • Log in with your HAKA account at the start of your session
  • Complete the short task and questionnaire, and that’s it!

What you’ll get

  • €15 gift card (requires basic tax info) — limited to the first 60 participants who complete the study
  • Student overall patch (limited for those on Tampere campuses)
  • Plus: a peek into how AI might transform software safety work
