Oliopäivät 2025: Advancing Dialogue on Software Engineering and AI

Oliopäivät 2025 was held at Tampere University on 11th December, bringing together researchers, students, and industry representatives for a focused examination of current developments in software engineering and artificial intelligence. The event offered a structured yet open forum for discussing emerging research, practical challenges, and the evolving relationship between engineering methods and AI-driven tools.

Throughout the day, speakers addressed topics ranging from multi-LLM system design and agentic workflows to the long-term trajectory of software engineering research. The programme highlighted both the rapid progress of AI technologies and the need for careful methodological and ethical consideration as they enter mainstream development practices.

A central moment of the event was the recognition of the M.Sc. Thesis Award recipients Viivi Mustonen and Derrick Manoharan. Their work reflects the strong research culture within Finnish universities and underscores the importance of academically grounded insights in shaping the future of the field. Both of the winners received a 500 € prize from Pitky (Pirkanmaan tietojenkäsittely-yhdistys ry).

Oliopäivät concluded with informal discussions and networking, reinforcing its role as a longstanding meeting point for the software engineering community. GPT-Lab was pleased to contribute to and participate in these exchanges, which continue to support collaboration across academic and industrial spheres. Special thanks to all the speakers and presenters of the day.
