Alternatively, Helsinki Airport offers frequent train connections to Tampere (approx. 1 hour 30 minutes). The city centre and Tampere University are within walking distance from the railway station.
Fly to Tampere
Tampere-Pirkkala Airport is located 17 kilometres from the city centre. It has direct flights from selected European cities. From the airport, the city centre can be reached by local bus, taxi, or car rental.
Helsinki Airport, Finland’s largest international airport, is another convenient option with excellent train connections to Tampere.
To Tampere by Train
Tampere is well connected to other Finnish cities by train. VR Finnish Railways operates frequent and fast train services from Helsinki, Turku, and other major cities. The railway station is centrally located, within walking distance to Tampere University, city attractions and is only 2 mins walk from the Crazy Town (Summer School venue).
If you are arriving via Helsinki Airport, the most convenient option is to take a local train from the airport to Tikkurila Station (approx. 10 minutes), and then transfer to a direct long-distance train to Tampere (approx. 1.5 hours). The total travel time is around 2 hours, and the cost is typically between €20–€30.
Trains are comfortable, punctual, and offer scenic views along the way. Link to the official train ticket site: https://www.vr.fi/en.
To Tampere by Bus
Long-distance buses operated by Matkahuolto and Onnibus offer a budget-friendly way to travel to Tampere from cities across Finland. The bus station is also centrally located.
From Helsinki Airport, some buses depart directly from the terminal, while others require a short transfer to the Helsinki Central Bus Station. The total travel time is approximately 2.5 to 3 hours, and the cost usually ranges from €10–20.
