Prof. Pekka Abrahamsson is the AI Researcher of the Year 2025

Professor Pekka Abrahamsson, founder of GPT-Lab at Tampere University, has been named AI Researcher of the Year 2025.

The recognition by AI Finland reflects his long-term contributions to artificial intelligence and software engineering as well as his role in establishing Finland as a strong developer and adopter of generative AI technologies.

Prof. Abrahamsson is regarded as a leading figure in Finnish AI research and application. His work has brought generative AI into everyday business operations and strengthened national innovation efforts.

Mentoring remains a significant part of Prof. Abrahamsson’s academic work. Over the years, he has supervised and supported a broad group of students and early-career researchers, many of whom now work in key positions in AI and software engineering. His steady guidance has contributed to the growth of GPT-Lab community.
