On 14 October 2025, the Helsinki Sanomat Foundation announced the formation of a new AI Working Committee to anticipate and address the transformations that artificial intelligence is bringing to journalism and the media sector.
One of the four invited experts is Pekka Abrahamsson, professor of software engineering at the University of Tampere and founder of the GPT-Lab research network. His participation underscores GPT-Lab’s growing role in shaping research and policy at the intersection of AI, language models, and media systems.
The committee’s mandate includes analyzing AI’s impacts on journalism, freedom of speech, and media literacy—and proposing ways the foundation can support these values through the AI disruption.
