Hi, thanks for taking a moment to explore, and welcome to this tiny corner of the internet—my profile! Currently, I am the Vice Head of the GPT-Lab Tampere and a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Tampere University, Faculty of Information Technology and Communication Sciences. My research focuses on applying generative AI in software engineering development and research. (Yes, I get to work with cutting-edge tech that sounds straight out of a sci-fi movie!)
Previously, my work has revolved around quantum software engineering, large language models (LLMs) for software development and healthcare technologies, and multi-cloud and distributed architectures. So far, I’ve (co-)authored over 50 peer-reviewed research papers published in prestigious journals and conferences like JSS, IST, ICSE, and EASE—basically, the kind of stuff you skim for the abstract when you’re short on time!
Oh, I almost forgot to tell you! I completed my Ph.D. in Software Engineering from Wuhan University, Wuhan, China, in 2021 (started in 2018). Yes, I was in Wuhan the entire time—spent 9 months in lockdown, and guess what? I didn’t get COVID, not even a single headache! (Clearly, research immunity is a thing, right?) On the positive side, I became the first foreign student from the School of Computer Science at Wuhan University to complete a Ph.D. in such a short time—a milestone I’m quite proud of!
My research has two big goals:
- To understand how large-scale software-intensive systems are designed, developed, and evaluated in the industry (spoiler alert: it’s complicated).
- To develop techniques, processes, and tools that make life easier for software organizations trying to create high-quality systems (because who doesn’t love a good productivity boost?).
Beyond research, I love teaching and have experience with courses like Software Architecture and Design, Object-Oriented Programming, and Continuous Software Engineering. I also organize workshops and conferences on cool topics like quantum software engineering and DevOps practices—because sharing knowledge is half the fun.
When I’m not buried in code, research papers, or funding proposals, you’ll likely find me reading fiction and history, watching science fiction movies, or indulging in my lifelong love for cricket (I’m still waiting for my call to the national team). I hit the gym to balance out all the screen time and travel whenever I can to explore new cultures (and cuisines). Occasionally, I unleash my creative side by writing Urdu poetry, often reflecting on social justice or personal musings. But my favorite role? Being a dad to two tech-savvy daughters who constantly remind me that I’m no longer the coolest tech geek in the house.
